Steve McQueen "Le Mans" DVD
|
Forty-five
international racing stars join Steve McQueen in
this gritty, nerve-shattering recreation of the
toughest car race on earth-Le Mans.
Returning to France to compete a year after he's
been injured, an American driver (Steve McQueen)
finds himself drawn to the widow of a racer who was
killed in the same accident.
Filmed on location in France, the film's
spellbinding cinematography provides a dazzling look
at the world's most extraordinary cars and the
unique personalities of the people drawn to the race
car circuit.
Steve McQueen, himself a championship racer, did
most of his own driving on the harrowing 8.5-mile Le
Mans course—often at speeds exceeding 200 miles per
hour.

Participation in this legendary race to the
west of Paris is the biggest challenge in motor sport for
the drivers as well as for the manufacturers. For the
appearance in Le Mans an estimated 500 million Euro are paid
by the sports chiefs of the race teams in order to prove
their technical competence. The drivers of the 50 teams go
to their limit for such a glorious win. In our memory is
still the Mercedes team of 1994: one driver had cut open his
palm, the second suffered a circulatory breakdown and the
third has been delivered from the steering wheel to the drip.
Germanys most successful driver Klaus Ludwig who won the
race in 1979, 1984 and 1985 characterized this sentence:
“This race is like a war. Nobody knows if they are going to
return”.
